(Boulder, CO) – The partnership with CytoSport, Inc., the parent company of the Muscle Milk® protein recovery drinks, includes all of the brands under the company’s umbrella. Mendez will have access to Muscle Milk®, CytoMax® and CytoSport products to help him with his pre, during and post training and racing nutritional needs.
Sharing the Muscle Milk® brand’s commitment to having the best race day possible, the twenty-year-old Mendez is catching the attention of the global endurance sports community with stand-out performances in just two years of professional off-road and road racing. Mendez is represented by the Human Interest Group (HIG) and lives year-round in Mexico City, Mexico.
“This is a win-win for both Mau and Muscle Milk, and we are thrilled about this important investment into Mau’s future as an XTERRA powerhouse from a leading sports-related brand like Muscle Milk,” said Michael Cardoza, Director of Human Interest Group.
“Mau combines a youthful drive and genuine gratefulness with his formidable athletic prowess that make him an appealing spokesperson. Most twenty-year-olds just want to get to any Word Championships, never mind being the 4th fastest in the world and probably the most humble.”
Placing fourth at this year’s XTERRA World Championship, Mendez battled the insanely rough course for a final race time of 2:40:54 – only 14 seconds short of third place after having the race’s fastest run time. In his pro debut at the 2014 XTERRA World Championship, Mendez was first out of the water and moved up three places in the final 800 meters of the run to take 5th. For this season, Mendez selected key competitions to accelerate his race experiences: taking third place at the XTERRA Mexico Championship and second place at XTERRA Philippines. Mendez made the decision to race Ironman 70.3 and Challenge Half events this year and has proved he is also a force on the road side of the sport finishing 3rd at IM Monterrey 70.3 and 2nd at Challenge San Gil.
“I am thrilled to be working with such an amazing brand. They have a long history of helping amazing athletes, like IRONMAN legend Chrissie Wellington, get to and stay at the top of their games. I am truly honored that they gave me this opportunity,” said Mendez.
CytoSport, Inc. is one of the largest sports nutrition companies in the United States and was acquired by Hormel Foods Corporation in August 2014. CytoSport, Inc. was named one of CircleUp25’s 2013 most innovative companies according to Forbes. In 2014, Fast Company listed CytoSport, Inc. as one of the world’s top 10 most innovative companies in fitness. The Muscle Milk® brand is an award-winning line of protein products used by athletes and active lifestylists of all levels. The Muscle Milk® brand athlete roster includes sports superstars Stephen Curry (NBA), Clayton Matthews (NFL), and Clayton Kershaw (MLB).
“We are so proud to be able to partner with Mau, a young superstar with a tremendous future ahead of him in the endurance community,” said Brandon Hagy, sports marketing manager for CytoSport, Inc. “He’s a game changer, and we’re excited to be a part of his journey.”
